Is my camera considered an advanced point & shoot, or what?

Yep definitely

If you can't get (or don't want) a DSLR, they are one of the ones to consider for sure

I have seen some stunning shots taken with them, so look forward to seeing more of yours.

I actually am planning to get a DSLR in the near-future.
I'm looking at the Canon Digital Rebel xTi...

Another good choice (on both counts )

I'm sure your S5 will serve you well for quite some time, by which time there will be even better DSLRs out there.. they seem to be moving forward so fast!
