B/w. in camera /pp

black and white photos.

Do you think they are better taken in camera or altered in the post processing.?

I was going to experiment today at the park but it has been pouring down all day.

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

I have tried both now, and I am not sure

Some that I have took in camera have come out well, but then others I have edited later, have come out okay too.

Interesting to see what others think.

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

Its hard to say TBH - you need to have an eye to shoot BW shots as there is no turning back after you have taken them!!

I personally think in cam bw looks great but with todays software, you can achieve a pretty close alternative!

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

I would always shoot in colour then convert to black and white as you get far more control over the end result.

That certainly seems to be the view from most magazines too.

I'd only shoot b&w 'in camera' if I had no means to post process.

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

I used to think it was the camera but I have done some altered after what look just as good, I have also noticed(may just be me) it depends on the photo taken aswell.

i am sitting on the fence on this one.

both can be good i think.

i might do a day or morning out shooting and just shoot in black and white and see what happens

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

I think you will find with the D40x, that you are better off converting from a colour RAW as it allows more control over the final results, as the D40x only offers basic in cam BW

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

i have only got a basic RAW convertor [picassa] and its not much cop when converting RAW.

i have ps7 but it does not do it.

i will give the b/w shoot a shot and post up some stuff and then w can judge.

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

I would have thought PS7 would allow you to convert to BW and use the channels?

Re: B/w. in camera /pp

yes sorry i didnt explain it right.

ps7 can convert into black and white easy enough, but it does not convert RAW
