Canon Lenses

Bit of a daft question.

What's the difference between an EF-S lens, and EF lens and an IS lens.

I might be looking at a 40D.....

Re: Canon Lenses

Cheers K.

So the IS is generally more expensive as it's kinda like Sonys Steadyshot?

Any great benefit of having it or not having it?

Re: Canon Lenses

Yeah thats right.

IS is great to have on your lens if you tend to hand hold or shoot in lower lighting conditions as you can get down to lower shutter speeds and get very little or no blur at all

Re: Canon Lenses

IS (image stabilisation) is Canons version of Nikons VR (vibration reduction) and Sonys SuperSteadyShot.

They're usually the better lens in the range, and can be extremely useful, esp for longer range lenses

Re: Canon Lenses

I have the 28-135mm IS and its a very good lens, fairly fast too. I have had some good results from the standard lenses though, namely a cheapish (£180) 75-300mm, Im looking to save up for the IS version though now.
