London day and night

I got stuck in London overnight on Tuesday. Basically sold a ticket for a train that had already gone. I don't know if you've tried to keep warm from 1am when the stations close until 4:30am when they open, but it takes a lot of walking. Luckily I had my camera with me, so used it for taking some night shots.

These are some of the day/night ones... a lot of the day ones were *street* style shots where I saw something or someone interesting and had to react quickly, so if something is a little out of focus it is, um...artistic interpretation, yes, and not unreadiness at all...

The ubiquitous Routemaster caught in its natural environment. I learned to drive in one of these
1

Cranes into the sun. I corrected the converging verticals in Photoshop, and the picture looked flat. So I put them back:
2

The Post Office Tower and crane. Again, converging verticals left in because it works better than with them out... I like the colours against the blue of the sky
3

A *Street* shot. I loved the clothing, her expression, the bright colours of the sunlight against the dark coat in the shadows, the fact that he has a Sony camera and the "Boris Bikes" a recurring theme in the album.
4

"This is the BBC" Yes, it really is. I've not corrected the verticals again. This time through not having enough time...I may try and see if it looks better
5

The Cavendish Square Plinth used to have a statue of The Duke Of Cumberland upon it. He sat upon it on his horse from 1770 to 1868, when it was removed due to disapproval of his actions in Scotland after the battle of Culloden.

After 144 years the plinth is now again in use, with a replica of the original statue. In soap. By the Korean artist Meekyoung Shin. Let me say that again. In soap. It will sit there until June this year, when it will have been there a year.

I think it is a fabulous work, the weathering and the cracks and slow decay serve to accent the loss of approval the original Duke had over his tenure on the plinth. And it smells nice. Oh, and the soap was donated by Lush.

YAY! Lets set up a chrome steel statue in the sun, and totally screw over any photographers..
8.

Okay, I just like this one because the camera was actually exactly horizontal when I took it, although the light standards would say otherwise thanks coverging verticals! , and I love the reflection in the bus windows
9

A bus driver practices Tai Chi outside his bus. Not something you see every day...

Re: London day and night

And by night. By this time I'd been awake 23 hours and been walking trying to keep warm since 1am. So if they're blurred it is probably less camera shake, more photographer shake...

Yeah. This is entirely un-edited. I have no idea...

Re: London day and night

A really fascinating set Gaz. Lots I really like, in fact none I dislike. No 3 for me on the first set and 9 on the second night time set. I hope you have now thawed out.

Re: London day and night

Thank you. And no, after 24 hours I'm still having sudden uncontrollable shakes. It was really quite unpleasant I have no idea what the phone box was for. Is it art? Is it functional? Is it a delusion I'm still having?

Re: London day and night

Thanks for the kind comments. It was an educational experience. I may chose to repeat it later in the year when it is warmer and I *intend* to be up all night
