Tripod question

I have some ideas but think I need a tripod.

Can you have the camera turned to portrait, but on a tripod?
If you can't do that on the camera then can a tripod hold the camera like that?

Oh yes! Easy either way. Why can't you do that handheld!

I shoot loads on portrait.

Any tripod will have a portrait tilt..mine unscrews a little when changed from landscape but is very sound.

Re: Tripod question

If you have a pan & tilt head on the legs or a ballhead, either will allow you to put the camera into a portrait mode.

Re: Tripod question

This is the one I use. Very old, heavy but solid as a rock and does not slip at all.

The lever you can see releases the pressure on the ball so that you can position the camera in any position you want. At the back there is a slot that allows you to turn the camera through 90 deg. for portrait mode.

Apologies for the state of my room.

Thanks guys, I can't do handheld as I need to be in some of the photos, a self portrait but not, which probably sounds as clear as mud
Also some for night time stuff.

Just ideas I have that I probably can't do well without tripod (and I'm going to get that remote)

Re: Tripod question

Natalie..I had a big solid tripod given to me by my dad...I never used it.

I bought a flimsy tripod ..it slipped about like bambi on ice.

I went and reviewed a zillion tripods and bought one that is not all that expensive but FITS ME..and allows me to move with it and pull back with it..all of the time supporting me in what ever I am doing.

Get the right tripod for you.

Re: Tripod question

As Daisy said "yes" The type in my photo is a ball head which is useless for any video work.

The type you want to ask for is a Pan & Tilt head.
