talk me through macro

1000cc grass track has ended till next year so no more boring you with fast bikes,so time on my hands...........i would like to try a bit of macro where do i start ,what do i need,how do i do it
any help on this subject please

I have a (borrowed) macro lens so I just point it at something small and shoot!
I believe you can get filter type macro lenses that you can add to your exsiting lens for much cheaper.

The Tamron 70-300 lens that you already have does Macro, its the little switch on the top, turn the lens to the right, [ nearly to maximum lens extension ], to allow the switch to be moved, then get to about a metre from the things you want to photograph and focus from there. I have the same lens and recently got a +4 filter which lets me get up really close, [ my thanks to Phil for explaining how to use it ], once I`ve fully got the hang of it I`ll be getting a few more + filters, they can be added together as well to increase the magnification. For a true macro lens the ratio should be 1:1. So look for a lens with this ratio, something around 90 mm mark should do, depending on how far way you want to work at from the subject
