Batteries
Hi all,
I am looking at getting my partner a camera for Christmas, mainly looking at the Nikon Coolpix L100.
My only issue with this camera, and what stopped me snapping it (excuse the pun) up straight away was the fact it requires AA batteries. Will this make much of a difference? I have only ever had cameras with re-chargable batteries so I don't know
It seems to be at quite a good price but If he will have to spend a small fortune on batteries, I may keep looking.
Also anyone had/used a camera from this range by Nikon, any thoughts good or bad welcome!

My compact cameras have always run on AA batteries.
I have loads of rechargeables so charge them up just like you would a camera battery.
The added advantage is that if you run out they are easy to come by while out and about.

There are pros and cons...
Main pro being if you are on hols you can easily get batteries when you run out
Cons being it's not as easy as just putting the camera on recharge as you have to go out and get the batteries

I prefer the AA route for compact cameras. I leave my point and shoot in my bag for when I travel, so having to think about charging it every time I travel is a no no. Rechargeables are okay, but AAs are so cheap now. I bought 40 AA from 7day shop (Duracell M3s) for £15 inc delivery, they will last a while
As has been said, when you are in need of some extra power, no matter where you are you can nearly always buy AA batteries.

Oh yes, I knew you meant proper batteries. I was talking Tesco Value batteries! Don't buy a bunch of them and plan to use them in your camera!

While I'm not using these in a P&S camera, I have been pretty happy with the Energizer rechargeables (the green ones -- NiMH) used in my power hungry Wii-motes. One of the cons to these, however, is the long amount of time to recharge. Maybe it's my charger, but it takes far longer to fully charge these vs. my Canon-specific batteries in both my P&S and T1i.
