Hi Andy, I think you have made some very valid points in the thread and although of to a bad start, I think this was obviously something you feel passionate about.
I actually agree with most of what you have said, I think there is a great deal of sensationalising in the press a things soon become very embroiled.
As I stated earlier in this thread, I feel Big lenses and pro-cameras bodies don't mix well with tightly packed seating areas. So with this in mind I can see where some of these venues are coming from. I still think we all as photographers have to be mindful of how vulnerable our freedom and rights are though.
So... Andy if your still there, don't give up, why don't you post some pictures up so we can see some of the other things your passionate about and put this thread behind us

I would add that after seeing the opening ceremony, I too would be miffed if someone had a great big lens in my way 
I can still see why some might think there are other reasons, but on the whole think it's probably for the best.
