Pushed the boat out

I finally decided to go for the 1Dmkiv after much thought and weighing things up. I have now let my trusty old 100-400L & 1Dmkiii go in order to make this move, but having looked at todays odd test shots in the back garden, I think I'm going to be very happy with it. The files from this camera body are very reminiscent of my old 5D's files (very clean & detailed).

I used my 300L and a x2 converter for testing, here is one of the pictures re-sized to 1024, plus a 100% crop:

This crop is quite large:

Re: Pushed the boat out

Hi Paul, Thanks for the reply. It has been a long few weeks thinking long and hard about the pro's & con's of changing my mkiii for the mkiv.

It was mainly for the increased ability to crop and the improved rear screen. I've not really suffered any focus issues like others have with the mkiii and what few OOF shots I did get I think were probably down to me.

Re: Pushed the boat out

The game is on Ken, nice work! I just realized yesterday at the Woodburn Tulip Festival that every piece of camera gear that I own was acquired since this same time last year. New gear makes the Spring & Summer seem so inviting. Now I can't wait for the next annual festival or event. I've purchased two new lenses this Winter as well. The 85mm F3.5 Nikkor Micro & the fast Nikkor 50mm F/1.4. Bring on the Portland Rose Garden, I'm ready.

I love your first shots taken with the new camera. Please post more soon.

Thanks for the link Phil, I'll have to start having a look at some of the focus settings as there is a few changes from the mkiii. I have set some of the more common custom functions to how I like them though.

Hi Bob, I still get excited waiting for a new piece of gear to arrive. I took a couple of days of work (Fri, Mon) so that I could get acquainted with it.

Guys, here is a hastily put together gallery of Fridays garden shots, they are large but there is a button to re-size to fit screen.

Gallery Here

The two shots of the cement cat looking at a daisy were taken at different times of day. The one with the daisy open was taken in the evening at ISO 3200

Re: Pushed the boat out

That quite a big difference Bob. I'll have a play with some of the noise reduction settings in Adobe LR3 to see if it's as good.

Thanks Moonstone, I can't wait to get to some air shows or race meetings to try it out properly.
