Re: RAW Problem

I didn't think you could edit a raw image.

I have just opened a raw CR2 and a DNG image in PS gone to save and it does not give me an option to save as a raw image or dng. TIFF's PSD, Jpeg and a multitude of other formats but none of them are raw file formats.

The whole point of raw files is that one always has the original to fall back on as it cannot be altered by editing software.

you can edit a raw image but you have to save it as a different format but my problem was when i opened it up again it kept its edit in place, i didnt know it saved a separate file once edited which kept appearing when i went to view it again

I think we are getting a bit mixed up here.

A raw file is not edited. A raw file is processed and a different file is saved as you say.

However the data within the Raw file is not altered in anyway and it is untouched and unadulterated.

When a Raw file is processed information is stored either in a database or a sidecar file (XMP File). This lets the software remember what settings were used in the processing of the Raw file.

So to say a Raw file is edited is incorrect as this would infer that the file is altered in some way and it is not.
