Colour Space
what colour space do you work in?
Im curious about using ProPhoto as it reproduces more gamut and provides deeper more saturated colours, only downside is alot of harware, ie printers, cant reproduce the colour.

Another consideration is your hardware, the newer LCDs are now coming with 92% color gamut, while the older (and cheaper) ones are 75%.
The colours definitely look more vivid, yet are not over saturated.
LED backlights are coming out now, with even better color gamuts
(The higher the color gamut the better as it means you get to see more of the colour in a picture).

What you see on the screen sometimes does'nt print up the same, it depends more on your graphics card than the monitor IMO, a good graphics card can be adjusted for brightness/tones/gamma etc, it's just a matter of experimenting with the settings, print a small pic, look at whats on the screen and compare, then adjust the tones etc on your graphics card, keep doing it until you get it matching.
