Evergreen Red

It always amazes me how bright the new leaves of some of our shrubs are, this one is as red as any flower but to what purpose, does anyone know?

Apart from the answer to the above I also welcome help and criticism of my shot.

I would love to see a caterpillar on that - dunno why but I feel it's missing something?

I agree with Azz - I think it's lovely, and it really appeals to me, but I'm looking for something else... my eye just won't settle.

Not sure the plant would be too keen on a Caterpillar so perhaps one of Moonies butterflies.
