Raw, should there be more to do PP?

Take my shots in RAW and find that most only seem to require a little sharpening and a tiny tweak of black in some cases, have found no need to use levels or any of the other items like contrast or brightness. Makes it quick, crop, sharpen and finish.

However I am beginning to worry I should be getting more from my shots what should I be checking in particular to see if it would be better with some adjustment

White Balance. I use Adobe Elements who's Raw editor lets me choose between things like shade, overcast, flash, sunny or auto. Big difference in colour. You can use the temperature slider to pick any setting you like.

I do have Elements Bob but use Lightroom or Bridge for the RAW and must say I always check the white balance but so far I have not had to change it, except for shots taken indoors when I have forgotten to set it.

Re: Raw, should there be more to do PP?

I find that in the Raw editer that I have a finer control over my blacks, contrast & fill. I also love the clarity & vibrance adjustments. Mind you that this is all done before I do my post processing in Elements editor. There's 256 times more detail to play with in a RAW file than a JPEG.

Re: Raw, should there be more to do PP?

I am just not sure where I should be looking, as I said sometimes I increase the blacks a bit but that is about all. Suppose I need a sort of list of things I should be looking at as I am not trusting what I am seeing.

If your happy with the photos you take and the slight adjustments , then I wounldn't worry about trying to "improve" on the photo. It may be different if it is for commercial work or going for an "abstract look". As I have said before, the better the photo taken the less PP work to do.

agreed, I was going to say the same thing. I tend to tweak sharpness slightly, reduce noise, make sure white balance is up to scatch and maybe boost the clarity.

I think everyone finds a routine. I tend to do this due to my camera holding me back slightly.
