Re: How to capture my white dogs?

They are good shots patch but on each there are area of white and in the last black where there is no detail. On the first the area behind the ear has no detail, the second the area below the jaw the third is better apart from the from the front of the front legs and the last there is no detail on the face in the white or the body in the black.

This may be my monitor but I think not, these are very good but I have never been able to get white detail in bright sun no matter what the subject is. I always use spot metering on the bright area but the best I can do is not good as detail is lost even if the white is not blown. See,

The area behind the neck has no detail at all but it is not blown at the same time the side of the goose is not well exposed, it may be possible to have taken this in these light conditions but I do not have that knowledge. So I knew when I took it what the result would be but I took it anyway because a chance like this in better light may not happened again.

Re: How to capture my white dogs?

Im with Phil. Under Expose. Bracket some under-exposures in half-stop increments. Pop in some off camera fill flash for shadow detail and off you go

Re: How to capture my white dogs?

See that the use of a flash would have better exposed the side of my goose but would it not have made the back worse, as you can see from the exit I had taken it at several settings and this was the best when you looked at the shot overall. Will have to try going down further with the exposure and use a fill flash.

I do find the histogram a bit confusing as from that you would not expect all detail to be lost at the white end but it sure is, back to the drawing board.

Would be helpful if someone could paste and example of what I should be aiming at.
