Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

I first knew them in Leicester in the 70's. A single dusty shop on the outer street of the city centre and just run by a few geeks. One of my first purchases was a 200mm f4 manual focus and manual stop-down Pentacon lens and a Sunpak GX33 flash to go on my Zenith EM SLR. Jacobs also started here from a small store.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

There are cheaper places to buy than Jessops - that said, some people like to deal with people as part of that after service.

Jessops MAY have sold you your camera without prior knowledge of the camera's history - I've been into Jessops and tried lenses, cameras, etc... which ultimately have to be sold on.

Give them a chance to redeem themselves, they may come good. I've found Jessops staff ultimately helpful, albeit a little superficial in knowledge.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

Now got a proper "new" Nikon D200. I know its brand new because the first photo came up as 0001- there is a protective plastic plate over the rear screen which had a peel off protecter- I had to set the time-the packaging had been unopened inside etc. The excuse was that the other camera had come from another shop and they didn't know much about it.

I have my doubts but still I got what I paid for in the end.

JR they told me that any used stock, be it ex demo -shop soiled -etc, is marked up with a yellow sticky label as used and sold at a 20% discount

I didn't see one item on display marked in that way but he produced an item as an example from a shelf hidden from view .
