Conned by leading Uk retailer

Saturday 28 march 2009 I bought what I was lead to believe was a brand new Nikon D300 from a well known national retail outlet in the UK

On checking The camera didn't have the last upgrade from Nikon back in Sept 2008 and my first photo showed the camera already had taken 1800 photos.
Looks as if it is an ex demo model.

The sales assistant said the box he had opened so he could charge up the battery which obviously was incorrect

So I have lodged a formal complaint to their head office this evening about their outlets selling second hand gear as new. so now I wait for their reply.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

Which retailer was it Bazza?

Hope you get it sorted soon, I would take it back and demand a new one

if you paid for a brand new one, then that is what you should get. I thought Demo models had to be sold as such.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

That happened to me a while back when I bought an external hard drive, I took it back and they replaced it immediately - but it still cost me time and fuel to take it back there which should`nt have been necessary. I went to the same staff member who had handed it to me the day before, as soon as I got it out of the bag it was obvious he knew full well it was`nt brand new

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

I would have taken it back straight away Bazza and demanded a refund or replacement for a new one there and then.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

Sorry to hear that Bazza. Did you pay full retail price Bazza or was it a one off discounted 'last one or similar'?

Not sure about the firmware but it would depend on manufacture date or policy. I have bought some computer/hifi/video stuff and some manufacturers leave you to sort your own firmware upgrades. I have always found places like Jessops and Currys to be totally upfront about discounted models but with reasonable savings. If it had been me my starting point would have been back at the shop and sort it from there. I'm guessing a simple swop won't recompense you?

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

Taken the camera back and after they checked out the pictures on the DVD I took only 24 hours of the purchase, they had to agree that the camera had been used. Their excuse was that the camera had come from another Jessops shop and didn't know any of the history of the camera.

So they are getting another camera couriered from a shop in Wolverhampton but havn't offered compensation, even though it is going to cost me another £5 to alter the serial number on the insurance policy.

So it will be the 3rd trip plus car park charges on top of the £5. I hate Jessops
