Re: New cam... Nikon D700

Looks a nice camera BC from the "other "site, with such a low shutter count as well. All you need now is a Quad bike to carry all your gear on.

Re: New cam... Nikon D700

Yep, it's pristine Bazza, guy was brill, brought it 130 miles to make sure I was happy. Good price too although I predict they will drop a bit later this year. I don't mind second user at all. I'm not rich and it saves money. Already transferred warranty and it's two more years so seems a good deal. Azz, not sure really, been considering and simply one was there at a good price and I needed to find out. They sell easily if not. Immedeatly i feel more at home with the bigger viewfinder, back to where I was in the 80's and 90's with 35mm! Anyway, just off for a test drive... I predict resuilts the same as the 300 except in certain situations, but it could change my photography because it works differently... lenses less reach, more wide angle, may shoot at higher ISO changing shutter and f stop... who knows!

BC

I am waiting for Nikon to produce one that looks around corners.

Thinking myself of getting that camera, but going to wait as the rumours of new cameras on the horizon could prove interesting

Re: New cam... Nikon D700

I was tempted to wait but really I have to ask what would be gained. Maybe a few MP's (could be more noise, do we really make massive enlargements or sell to stock libaries), maybe video (not interested), so in the end I just thought this does what I need and at the right price.

After a day out with it, some 400 pictures with different lenses, it has a different perspective to the d300 9lenses less range, wider, shallower DoF), pictures possibly have an edge, but there is no great leap in quality on a sunny day. Exactly as I expected so far.

I think you've made a good choice there - certainly the camera I'd go for at the moment if I'd got Nikon / Nikon fit lenses.

Re: New cam... Nikon D700

Watching with interest BC, reports and pictures. I am seriously considering upgrading to the D300s then maybe a FX in a year or so. All the reports I read about the D300s are very favourable BUT, I also read reports about the D700...........

Decisions decisions.
