Love it, such a shame he/she's not in focus - but what an amazing bit of luck!

Re: Look what flew into my shot

Am not bumping my own thread but came across your comment and think it a perfect example of a remark Suzi made of late that one persons perfect shot is another's crappy one. I know that is not what you said, you were just saying that it was a shame the flutterby was not in focus and I felt the same way.

However I posted this shot on another forum and it was highly praised 'because' the butterfly was soft and the main point of focus was the blossom, so Suzi is right it is in the eye of the beholder - but most of us knew that anyway.

Re: Look what flew into my shot

LOL it is strange how we all see everything different, I do love the softness of the butterfly.

I have a shot of my cat like this, I love it, but it is slightly soft, but there is something about it, that I really like I will pop it up in a minute I know everyone will say it is slightly OOF but there is something I like about it

Re: Look what flew into my shot

Ask any famous film star or model and they all love to be OOF.

There is a place for deliberately throwing what appears to be the main subject slightly off pin sharp or even off focus, if it is an artistic decision then it is up to the viewer to like it or not. Hasten to add this one was a fluke but there have been times I have tried this and sometimes it works sometimes it looks like you missed focus so it is important that some thing in the shot is sharp.

PS My first sentence has just reminded me of the time we used to coat a clear glass filter in Vaseline to give a soft focus for a portrait of a lady, ah, those were the days.

Re: Look what flew into my shot

I have popped the cat pic up in this section.

See what you think.

I had read that in a book of Old Hollywood stories, about the vaseline xx

Re: Look what flew into my shot

Have seen it MS and left comment. Will put up two dog shots I have but will not put them in Showcase as at the moment I don't understand what should go there working on it.

Re: Look what flew into my shot

All my shots are flukes...

Excellent timing, right on cue...it's dead and Mr Snaps catapulted it in right just as you pressed the button!

I didn't even consider the butterfly had to be in focus. On the contrary much prefer it this way or possibly even the butterfly in focus and everything else not, but if it was all in focus it would be lost in too much detail.

Anyway, 15= responses, doing well, takes me about 4 pictures to get that.
