From the Archives

Just going through older photos today. Taken back in 2003 on our honeymoon in Florida on the very 1st digital camera i owned and had been using since purchasing it back in 2000. It is quite shocking to see the quality of some of the images compared to what the quality of images is like on some Digital cameras nowadays, images are a lot better and cameras a lot cheaper than they were back then. The camera was a Sanyo SR662.

Anyway, to the images.....They have been cleaned up somewhat, but even still, they are not of good quality really, not compared to todays standards but i thought i would share all the same

(1) Allie the Alligator

(2) Bison

(3) Water Buffalo

(4) Ostrich

(5) Parrot - Not sure what though

(6) Toucan

(7) Not sure what this is

(8) Seal

(9) Another Seal

(10) Manatee - Sometimes called Sea cows, sadly an endangered species

Images 1,5, 8,9 & 10 re processed adding a little color, did not look good sharpening them up anymore. All other images i could do nothing with when it came to color, they just looked worse.

Re: From the Archives

Images were sharpened up slightly Owen, i do not think that the images will take being sharpened up any more cos of the poor original, although some of the images may benefit from adding a little color
Each image was sharpened, had noise reduced, tweaked contrast and had shadows and highlights tweaked a tad.

All images look a lot better than the originals, i maybe able to rescue all of our other images from our time in FLA now

Re: From the Archives

Looks like a great place to visit.

I don't think the image quality is that bad.

I can't recall when I got my first digital compact camera but from memory as long as the light was good, subjects weren't too fast and I didn't want to print large or crop heavily - it did the job just fine.

Re: From the Archives

I had to do a lot of housekeeping on these Phil but i am happy with the results. I needed earplugs previously just to view them,lol........
I am hoping to go back to FLA sometime in the future, especially now i am more into photography It is certainly a great place for wildlife, i would have a field day if and when we do make it back.

The camera has now been retired, it still works, well sort of, you can take images on it but menu does not work after one of my missus`s ex work colleagues spilled Champagne all over it some years back.

Re: From the Archives

Your mystery birds (7) are Black-winged stilts, digital photography continues to move forward, i was so chuffed with my original digiscoped images, yet now im shocked at how awful they were.

Re: From the Archives

Thank you Brian on identifying the birds in image 7 I tried to identify them using a US/CAN Bird ID website but all it kept coming up with were night Herons.
Thankfully there are programs out there that can be used to rescue images taken on the older digital cameras, i used Neat image for these.
