Re: I have bought a dog

Jols

As that is my line of business (animal boarding 17 yrs) and with 38 years of owning dogs up to 4 at a time, can I suggest you have the dog micro chipped ASAP. it doesn't hurt the dog and if it goes walkabout you stand a far better chance of getting it back. Don't forget pet insurance, I can highly recommend "Petplan" its one of the best on the market, we insure all our own and boarders with this company.

Re: I have bought a dog

Ah bless. loads of poops all over the house smelling devine, been there got the odour.

Training starts right away, don't expect too much this early from the pup but expect a lot from yourself. Keep commands down to one word, not something like " now come here and sit down" the dog won't understand. As for training classes thats another world, some are very good and some I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. A rough guide to a good dog trainer is for them to demonstrate on their own dog and let you copy with your puppy. Should they wish to handle your dog , run a mile, the dog will learn to obey them and not you.
Training isn't hard, for example, if you repeatedly put down food for a cat the cat will get to know when and where the food is, and they say you can't train a cat. Same with a dog repeating the same time and time again the dog will learn.
You feel a right idiot/ plonker in the street telling a dog to sit at a kerb for example, but the dog will do it automatically if taught to in the first place after a time

As for vaccinations the first lot will be done in two halves about 2/3 weeks apart then one booster annually.
