Second price increase now official

From a Nikon press release:

Quote:
Nikon UK will be introducing a second price increase on the 1st March 2009 which will affect Nikon’s Imaging and Optics products.
The price increase is due to the relative weakness of Sterling and the continued strength of the Yen. A range of product groups will be affected however the Coolpix series and selected digital SLRs will not see an increase.
An updated Recommended Retail Price (RRP) list will be available to view on the Nikon website from 1st March 2009. Nikon will continue to review its pricing structures
At this rate I may not be getting a new camera after all!!

I'd actually love a D3

I think an ideal time to buy one is when the D700x comes out tho, as that should drive down 2nd hand prices too.

Re: Second price increase now official

D3 is hell of a size camera to lug around. I wish I had bought the bargain I saw a 2 or 3 months ago at a Jessops closing down store, but in honesty it would have led to a lot more expenditure on glass. The glass would also be likely bigger and I just can't imagine being able to take a D3 in the mediocre allowances of pakage holiday hand luggage. I'm travelling abroad soon on a scheduled flight and even my D300, lightweight laptop and treasured gadgets are busting the bag sizes open. It's a commitment camera for sure.

Anyway, why are all these camera prices on the up when genrally everything else is being squeezed? Computer bits and bobs, cars, other electronics are the same or cheaper.

I definately think Nikon are shooting themselves in the foot, in the current climate people are not spending like in the past. But I am sure they will learn!!
