Afghan Girl

Stumbled over this by chance really and being one of 'those images' that seems to have become well known figured (despite being 92) it may be an intersting read.....

She remembers the moment. The photographer took her picture. She remembers her anger. The man was a stranger. She had never been photographed before. Until they met again 17 years later, she has not been photographed since...........

3 page story here

Re: Afghan Girl

It was the numbers that I found staggering Azz

Twenty-three years of war, 1.5 million killed, 3.5 million refugees: This is the story of Afghanistan in the past quarter century.

Re: Afghan Girl

Many will also remember the girl with her nose hacked off by her husband...

On a photographic level, I do have to say that in many instances, in the cold light of day, the pictures are nothing special... if it was the girl down the road we'd all be saying 'average' picture... because it is war torn Afghanistan or wherever and it means something to the rest of us on a comfy sofa, these pictures seem to win awards and all sorts... and I am not talking shots where people risk their lives to get a picture.

Re: Afghan Girl

I think it was her hypnotic eyes, they were so defiant, in the original picture, and almost bore straight through you, it is certainly a picture that is instantly recognisable as soon as you see it. Her eyes still have the same affect, can only imagine what she has seen in her lifetime :/

Thanks for sharing Phil x
