Stan - the bird shots are lovley but i feel number one is a little over sharp - even for the lens your using

The setting of your cam is set to hard sharpness which will produce that exaggerated sharpness your seeing with that lens as it doesnt really need that setting.

Like I said I like the way my shots look and have had some of these printed today t 18x12 and they look exactly the way that they do on my monitors.

It's all down to personal taste We can all share our opinions, and give our views, but at the end of the day it's the photographer (maybe even 'artist') who has the final say in their own work in terms of how it's presented... I think the shots are spot on, and know that currently my wildlife style shots are limited in comparison... We all have our strengths and I think Stanokella there demonstrates some of his/hers for sure...

Just been looking at these. Not getting into what a professional kit may or may not be, but, I think the feathers are the same on these Birds, so perhaps the closer you are the clearer they are?

I think you are right, that the closer you get then the more you can see the feathers appear to separate and look "harsh". Feathers aren't smooth and anyone who has picked up a feather from the floor will know how rough and sharp feathers are.
