Slow card write speed?

If you find on continuous shooting the camera stops and waits for the card to catch up the first thing you think of is the card is not fast enough. Anyway thats what I thought as well, but there could also be another cause which I have just tried. It could also mean that after taking so many photos on that card even thought you "delete" the pictures, in actual fact they are hidden and can be restored by various means, Sandisk recovery is one way for their cards with the disk they supply.

But I am going off the point. I have just formatted the memory card -Sandisk Extreme 111 x 4 gb- via the camera. I should imagine most cameras have this facility (see format in camera menu, it is for formatting the card NOT the camera), and instead of only doing 6 photos in continuous high speed (4fps xRAW+fine) then waits for the transfer, I now find that by formatting the card the pause has been eliminated and I can take as many shots as I like.

So if your camera pauses for the card to catch up try formatting the card and see the difference. BUT SAVE ANY PICTURES FIRST

I reformat to wipe the card every time, never done it by just deleting. Read that re formatting before every use lowers the chance of there being an error.
