You ask how many pictures on a 4 gig card for 6 pix camera. It depends in which mode you are shooting in. It can vary from several thousand in Jpeg basic to just a couple of hundred in Raw
On a 10 meg camera its nearly 9000 in jpeg basic small image size to under 200 using Raw+fine Jpeg with large image.
Most cameras have an "images left counter" anyway.

(I don't like using large cards as if the card gets damaged/corrupted you lose all your photo's

Ive 2 * 4GB cards. Shooting in raw with the D300 fills em pretty quick!
