Country walk - infrared effect

As part of my therapy to get over the shock of opening my wallet for Christmas and the fact nobody else has bothered sending in any Spot the Santas (People thread) I went out for a morning walk. Great to bump into a couple of friends on the way and get totally muddied up down the canal. Shot this pic... Now you know I am not very good in PP but tried to take out some flare, and have tried the Infrared effect in PhotoShop.

Comments welcome.

Nice shot BC, like the image and the composition, but not sure about the Infared, but that is personal; choice, so I like it. Glad you are using your camera xxx

Re: Country walk - infrared effect

Thanks Moonie... I looked at it again last night and went off it. Doesn't seem to have transfered too well and felt it looked better at home. I went to pull the plug on it last night but got side-tracked and forgot. I guess it was the best of a bad job. Did approx. 4-5 mile walk yesterday, camera in hand and came back with about 60 shots but really nothing to show for it. I think I was trying to make something out of nothing. Also realise taking the pic is only half the battle, I need some lessons in PP to actually get them worthwhile on screen. I am however enjoying the camera although it's considerably bigger and heavier than the D70. There was a point when I was flying quite a bit and have laptop, drives, confidential files etc. all in hand luggage and this is more weight and size you wouldn't want to trust to check in baggage. Sorry for digressing but just a factor to consider for those contemplating 'upgrading'. Re the pic, well just used simple PP 'Infrared' filter but I read up to find that many of the presets aren't the way to really do anything including sharpening etc. You live and learn of course...

Re: Country walk - infrared effect

I don't think yours was bad, I am not a big fan of Infrared images, not sure why either. They just don't do it for me
I bet it looked good in colour with the Flare, I like sun flares in pics, and I know lots of people don't

As far as Photo shop goes, all I can, say is just play around in it, I am only just getting to grips with the basics, but it is wonderful piece of software. Loads of tutorials on YOu Tube, there are some good photo shop groups on Flickr too. There is one for beginners in Photoshop.

Aw...Pepsi...you can be my friend...too late now but you will be on my Christmas card list for next year!

Actually I have to smile... I've noticed those that don't have anything postive to say don't say anything at all now...aw...so I know it's not so good maybe a bit borderline, as I said, it's the best of a bad day really...lighting was flat for 85% of my walk and then the sun came out but I was in the wrong place, wrong time...but if you like it that'll do for me
