Re: Grey Heron

Thanks Ken
Im at a point where i wish they would let me know before they fly away, so i could capture one in flight, this one must of stayed there for about 40 minutes, on our way back up the canal it decided to fly off without warning, and as usual i wasnt quite ready with the camera. This is the closest shot ive got of a Heron upto now, they are usually on Islands in the middle of lakes, too far to get a decent photo of them.

Re: Grey Heron

Lovely capture, I like the reflection

A heron has landed several times recently in my garden, but i am usually in a panic as they are after my hubby's fish

Re: Grey Heron

Thankyou Have you thought about getting a plastic heron for the pond Kay?? This will hopefully stop the real ones from flying in after the fish. They are a wonderful sight when in your back garden but not at the expense of the fish.

I'm afraid we have tried a plastic heron, it may have worked as we didn't see any herons while it was around, but my spaniel 'Poppy' decided it would be fun to eat it

hopefully i might get a chance of photographing a heron as I'm off down to some local wetlands next weekend

Re: Grey Heron

One other option is netting over the pond, can sometimes look unsightly though.

Yes hopefully you will see plenty whilst you are away, try and snap some in flight, that is what i hope to do one day, well snap them in flight facing me or even a side on shot instead of facing away from me.

Without notice this one flew away, camera switched off when i seen him go but managed to get one shot before he disappeared for good, unfortunately facing the wrong way.
