I like the idea, but the sky sort of let's it down. Maybe get rid of some of the sky,it's too wishy washy, and the poppy loses some of it's impact. If you could go back and revisit, I'd get lower down,so you lose some of the sky, but you still have all the negative space around the single poppy.

I love it but for the sky. I think with a bit of work in PS it'd be a really good image - alternately, go back if you can and get lower, see if you can get better sky too

Great idea and well spotted.
Agree with the sky comments in fact (just my opinion) I'd have gone a step further and eliminated the town leaving an abstract shot of just the red poppy against a frame filling green field.
