What would you do (second hand lens)

Last week when I was round my friends sisters house, her hubby was having a sort out of his camera bits, and he had a Nikon 55-200mm lens that he said I could borrow as he has only used it once since he bought it, at the weekend I took some pics at the coast, and I was really pleased with how things turned out, now he says that if I want I can have it for £50, it seems to be in perfect condition, there are no marks on it whatsoever, so I'm really really tempted, what would you do, it is basically second hand, it is silver/black, I don't know him that well, but well enough to know that if there was something wrong with it he wouldn't sell it to me, or at least he would tell me what was wrong. Your opinions would be very much appreciated

Now for the numpty question what does the hood attachment thingy do?

Re: What would you do (second hand lens)

Is it the one with VR built in Christine? (VR = anti shake)

As far as I know you can get a brand new one with VR for £149, so I'd guess the non-VR ones owuld be cheaper.

Either way, it does sound like a good price. Just check ebay to see how much similar second hand ones are selling for too.

Re: What would you do (second hand lens)

PS

The lens hood just stops unwanted light straying into the lens

Re: What would you do (second hand lens)

Go for it... its only £50 for a good lens if you are worried about it take it to a camera shop and let them give it the once over

The lens hood just stops unwanted light and lens flair (as Phil has already said)

Re: What would you do (second hand lens)

Thanks everyone, it does sound like a bargin, think I might take Samnookas advice and take it to a camera shop for a once over, although I'm pretty sure it ok
Azz, it doesn't come with a box, but I can't see anything on it that says it has VR, it does have AF which works fine
