Look for the dot in the corner, when you half press the shutter and manual focus the little green dot should come on when its in focus in the view finder.

ok im sorted.

the eye dot is not exactly perfect all the time but i have sussed it.

i was too close to my subject.

but now i have sussed it i am very very happy with my lens

thanks for all the help.

just one more thing to KK what do you mean adjust my eye piece????

You can mke small adjustments to the eye piece to suit your eyes. There should be a little wheel which will allow you to do this.

so i am taking lots of pics in the park today on the nifty.

i used auto and a lot came out dark.

is this cause the subjects should be closer with this lens

or

cause it was too bright

or am i crap

Have you got the EXIF data from one of the underexposed images - Its easier to see whats going wrong and where then

if i just pulled the lap top screen a little closer the photos are fine

would you say the nifty was better for closer pics and kids not moving about.

LOL whoops!

TBH iv shot loads of different things with my 50mm with no problems, hence the name Its a case of getting used to it and its capabilities. The fact that you cant AF will play a big roll in what you can capture with this lens, so in your case static subjects would be alot easier to shoot
