Im not sure if more and more will come out - but as prosumer tastes change, and the prosumer becomes more demanding in his/her results, the demand may go up - what I'm certain of thought is full frame DSLRS will eventually be the norm and the prices will drop as a consequence.
i only wish canon would wake up and smell the coffee - I love the ergonomics of Canon's but the price (Canon 5D MII) is a current inhibitor.
I've heard that the 60D is due for release in the not too distant future - Now THAT will be an awesome bit of kit as it looks like Canon have included the things they didnt include on the 50D. If thats' the case, I'm certain it will challenge the D700.

mmm that is what I thought, but if you wait until this happens or that happens you are never going to be happy in your photography,are you?

What type of photography are you most interested in? Do you need the extra reach of a cropped sensor? If I had the money I'd get a D700, or better still a D3

or have I got that wrong You can use all new lens on either camera, just on the FX bodies on some lens, you can't use the first bit, sommin like 17-24 of the 17-55 I think (can't remb now). Although the new full frame cameras have a DX mode too - meaning you can use dx lens.
Although it's not really an issue unless you have dx-only lens. You'd be buying fx lens anyway as you wouldn't be upgrading from a D300, rather going straight to a D700
