Photobox pro gallery?

In my gentle, slow photography journey I have been setting up practice sessions with babies so that I can gain experience. I have been doing these sessions for free and been giving away a few free digital files (though I have recieved a massive stack of chocolate for one session!).

I am thinking that the next step might be to continue with the free session, a few free digital images but then uploading remaining images to a gallery where they can buy their own prints - maybe with a small, modest profit for me.
I see Photobox have a pro gallery function. They don't charge fees, just 10 % commission on sales. I can can upload galleries, I can have photos watermarked, I can choose what products I want available to the client and set the prices.

Has anyone used it / know anything about it or could recommend a better site?

Re: Photobox pro gallery?

I think what you're doing is great - building up a portfolio is the most important thing you can do imo. Not only is it an example of your work but people will then spread the word about you too

I've never used photobox but it looks pretty neat - probably worth trying it out if there's no membership fee?

Re: Photobox pro gallery?

Well thats what I thought - if its free it can't hurt to try!
I am a long long way from being able to consider going pro, but I don't think it would hurt to sell a few prints along my way!

Re: Photobox pro gallery?

I have heard lots of talk of smugmug on American forums. Does it work for UK too?

I don't see why not. You'd need to talk with them about it to make sure. I've been with them for two years and love their service.

Re: Photobox pro gallery?

If you aim is to sell prints Smugmug may not be the best option as they use printers in the states and do not really cater for the UK. However for hosting images Smugmug is the bees knees

Re: Photobox pro gallery?

Thats what I thought.
I really want a simple way for people to order any prints they want without me having to deal with it all.
It looks like you can even custom price individual galleries so I can upload photos for the rellies and they can have things printed at cost and then I can have galleries for clients with a mark up.
