Jpg v. Tiff

OK so now I have taken the wedding images, edited them, saved them as jpg and also as tiff (advice from Darrieboy!) Tiff images are larger in size, so I am wondering which format is better for printing out? I'm making a digital album for the bride and the software will accept both formats, any advise great appreciated. thank you.

Re: Jpg v. Tiff

Tiff will contain more info therefore better for printing, as jpeg is 'compressed' data (hence smaller files)

Re: Jpg v. Tiff

JPG is a "lossy" format meaning that some pixels, or information is lost during compression. TIFF or BMP formats are lossless, containing every pixel contained in the original shot. If you're using a DSLR shooting in RAW format saves all data taken in the original shot. A RAW format file contains approximately 256 times more data than the compressed JPG format. More pixels equals more data and latitude in post processing. However more data equals much bigger files as in the case of TIFF or BMP files. I shoot in RAW and process to JPG. I have a 12.3 Meg sensor so there's plenty of data for 11"x14" prints in JPG format. Hope this helps!

Peps

If you do your own printing like I do, take the same picture in Jpeg and RAW/TIFF and print out both without editing and see the difference.

Re: Jpg v. Tiff

I use Tiff for printing if I am keeping a shot, I have the RAW, Tiff and Jpeg.
