Hard copy prints

Remember that if your having a print done of a picture, generally there is quite a bit of the picture that doesn't come out from around the edge. My advice would be to make sure the subject matter is well in the centre of the picture to allow for the edge removal.

Re: Hard copy prints

I think this depends greatly on who is printing the picture and what printer they're using. I print on a Canon IPF5000, and it doesn't crop unless I specifically tell it to. A high quality professional service will not crop off areas of your print that you don't specify you want cropped.

Re: Hard copy prints

Kind of see where you're coming from Bazza if you're handing a memory card over in a shop for generic bulk printing @ a given ratio - A4, 7X5 or 6X4 etc

Home printing obviously gives you control over print size and ratios - as does the likes of photobox etc where you can specify the ratio and position the 'crop' yourself as you order online.

Re: Hard copy prints

I haven't had this problem either (and I rarely centre my subject) but then I recrop to the size I am having printed.

Re: Hard copy prints

I sadly have. I did a lovely family photo, took it and printed it A4 size and it cut about half a person even though there was quite a bit of background to the side of it.

Re: Hard copy prints

Yeah, that's pretty much how it is. Epson and canon are in my experience the best printers. It really depends on how and what you're printing.

Re: Hard copy prints

Its commercial printing that cut bits off, not your own printers. You can see or change what you print yourself.
