Re: I've just bought a Canon!!!!

Beginning to think I have been right to stick to my Pentax, I am using lens I bought for my ME in the 1970s. OK there are better optics available now and much lighter but they still work on my cameras and are happy to work with the cameras AF the only thing I have not got is a power zoom but the camera does not support that either.

Re: I've just bought a Canon!!!!

Thanks for the advice Steve, if I buy secondhand from Ebay I shall stick to Canon EF lenses.
Well it has been despatched, so hopefully will be here tomorrow,

It is going to be weird taking pictures and not being able to see them straightaway, and having to wait for them to be processed.

Re: I've just bought a Canon!!!!

I'm sure you will love it and as others have said - it will help a lot as you'll have to think a lot more about what your doing with camera settings and composition rather than just snapping away like a maniac LOL

I did 'photography' at Mid Cheshire College of Further Education (Hartford) aherm years ago and loved it.

I enjoyed all the dark room stuff as much as taking the photographs. Stuff like developing test strips first so not to waste print paper, dodging and burning (manually) using masks and lollypops - all great fun !
Kit 1
Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

Re: I've just bought a Canon!!!!

Moonstone, are you doing any B&W photography on your course and if so will you be developing and printing them yourselves.

If that is part of your course then you are in for a treat. The first time you see the image starting to appear on the paper as you keep the chemicals flowing over it is a magical moment. Makes all the theory work worth it.

Yep, I am looking forward to it all really, but I love Black and white, so I am going to be waiting to get on to that part

It's arrived

Re: I've just bought a Canon!!!!

My new baby has arrived!

It looks in excellent conditon, in fact it looks immaculate, and it has a manual so that will make things a lot easier, still haven't got any lenses yet,but haven't got any film yet either so I will just have to admire it.

It's weird , I am going to have to develop some patience if I want to master film methinks

Re: I've just bought a Canon!!!!

Thanks Dawn, I ordered some film from seven day shop, and I am trying to decide what lens to start off with. It is soo much bigger than my Oly, but still feels comfortable in my hand, so that's good.

I wonder how much film I will waste till I get a decent shot
