Wild Brown Bear I had a close encounter

Hi this is a photo of a Brown Bear that was sitting at the bottom of the tree,
the two cubs were up the tree. This was taken at about 25 feet from the Bear I was on foot.
I know there is a fine line between brave and stupid.
but its all in the name of photography

Just look at the size of the claws on her..
I got a real telling off from the hotel owner who said I was very lucky as the bear is as fast as a race horse

Hat's off to you Gordon

Reminds me of that Billy Connolly tale about filming the lions close up. Whilst discretely changing his boots for trainers his companion remarked that he'd never out-run a lion to which he replied - who cares as long as I out run you.

Not sure if I think, you are mad or brave or a bit of both. Not surprised you got a telling off either, dead tourists aren't good for business

Re: Wild Brown Bear I had a close encounter

Thanx for the replies

I have more of this Bear and her family over a couple of days, when these were taken the bears were just wakening up from their hibernation and very hungary.

But what a chance of a lifetime. The chances of me making it back to the Jeep before it caught me was nil Liz my wife said I was mad but what great holiday snaps I was shaking like a leaf and my heart was pounding.

The chance was there and I took it.

I have posted this before it is the photo of one of the cubs that run by me at about 6 feet away through the camera lens it looked like it was going to run up my leg.

Phil no bull mate. Ask Liz when you see her at work she will confirm it. There was a black bear she will tell you how close we both were to it as
well .
