Re: butterfly

That's my favourite - it's rather delicate - and I like the noise it really adds to it IMHO.

Re: butterfly

Thank you for your comments everyone. Those who try and take photos of butterflies know how difficult it can be, so I was quite pleased with these results.

Re: butterfly

Nice shots Bazza. They're very colourful whatever 'make' those last two are.

I like the first one too although I suspect he'd be more difficult to spot.

I've a huge buddleia (butterfly bush) in the back garden which is covered with butterflys although we only seem to get red admirals or peacocks

Re: butterfly

Phil I cheated a bit, these were taken at a butterfly farm, its about the only place where one can "try" and get different varieties. Even so with the humidity steaming up the lens-finding a butterfly on a plant etc its still ain't that easy with focus -shutter speed to contend with as well

I didn't think they were in your garden Bazza - I was just pointing out that I only ever get two types.

I wouldn't say going to the butterfly farm is cheating anyway. This photography lark is about the picture so take full advantage of what you have. There's a good one in Edinburgh i keep meaning to visit.

I went into my greenhouse the other day to get a few pics of my chillies, peppers and tomatoes - as soon as I looked through the viewfinder I was fogged up. Fortuntaely it cleared again as soon as I went out. Leaving the door open for 5 mins first seems to work well but I suspect you'd be in trouble if you let all those butterflys escape

Re: butterfly

Totally agree Phil - it's not cheating to take photos of captive animals! It's only cheating if you then call yourself a 'wildlife photographer' However, I think photography is about the image produced, not whether the subject is wild/organic/free-range/your own/someone elses!

I like the recent two as well Bazza - there's something I find very pleasing about the last one. I know how hard it is with lenses steaming up, and you have to be so careful! Well done.
