Mousing a Fox

I have just spent 15-20 minutes mousing this vixen. I saw her sitting just inside a little spinny about 20-25 yards away. I stopped the truck and took my mouse piper out to see if I could cokes her out. After a few squeezes she was alert and looking towards me. She made a move and hopped over a ditch and sit there looking at me, a few more squeezes and she moved in closer, and closer, in the end she was only 5-6 yards from me and just sat there listening and turning her head from side to side taking it all in.

Re: Mousing a Fox

Well done Dawn, the penultimate shot is typical of the pre mouse pounce attention. It is amazing how the call of food will over ride the urge to run.

Re: Mousing a Fox

Sorry Border it is a linking of words. Dawn owns Borders and she shoots wildlife shots - never the less apologies to both.

Re: Mousing a Fox

I love 2 and 3 personally!

They're all lovely though...that sounds like a brilliant technique to get her to come closer...where can you get mouse pipers from?

You dont....

To squeak in a fox you purse your lips against the back of your hand and 'kiss' in making a series of intermittent noises. Alternatively you can use polystyrene on a bit of glass.

Either technique when practiced work every time.
