Re: Moon photo

Hmm... well - it's an impressive lens and all, and I do appreciate what you're saying about it - but from a photography point of view, I would rather the photo taken at 500mm or 600mm, to see the moon in 'its natural environment' so to speak... rather than through the hubble telescope

Re: Moon photo

Zounds

at 500mm all you get is a white ball against a black sky, very few if any moon details would show up clearly with depth of craters etc. Don't forget the lens only cost about £150 when I bought it some years ago.

Re: Moon photo

:/ well, if the settings are correct the photos will be fine at 500mm. I can't vouch for my own, though they are certainly *not* a white ball against a black sky... and I've seen plenty of others taken with similar.

Re: Moon photo

Your right Bazza I have no idea of the difficulties but as the viewer I would find the image easier and more rewarding to view if it were possible to see the whole thing. If it was taken because you are interested in that particular crater I can only admire your skill but if you are interested in the moon as a subject of an image for people to view as such then more of it is easier on the eye and easier to comprehend if it is complete.

Have to agree even at 200mm you get the light and shade on the surface of the moon and not just a white disk, fine as an image but no use if it is the detail of the surface you require.

When your looking for a landing site you need to get as close as possible to the object you want to hit.. It is so easy to get a moon complete in shot, but the object is to get details so need to take closeup pictures

Re: Moon photo

Im not much of a buff on this type of photography, but i can in a way see where Bazza is coming from with regards to the composition. A full moon shot , even though you would get alot of detail, wouldnt show as much if you were as close as what Bazza is here

Aesthetically, i would have liked a wider crop, but i think thats not the purpose of the image?...

Re: Moon photo

This picture isn't cropped, it is how it was taken. but I am glad DC appreciates where I am comming from.

Understand Bazza, think we are used to seeing a shot on the forum expecting to look at them for their aesthetic value, yours was not for that purpose and therefore I should not have commented on it in that way or in any other way as I don't know what you are looking for but do admire your persistence and skill even if I don't understand the purpose.

Can we expect an imminent moon landing from your area
