Re: Moon photo

Not sure on the crop - would have liked to have seen the whole of the moon... but then, I'm a Waterboys fan

Re: Moon photo

it wasn't cropped, that was all of the moon showing due to the earths shadow.

Depending on the relationship between the sun earth and moon dictates how much of the moon shows. You can get either solar or luner eclipse which is when the sun or moon is entirely blocked out by a planets shadow. Have a look at the moon over a period of time.

Re: Moon photo

its not chopped off I can take a photo so close that I cannot get the whole of the moom in frame. I was taking it with a 2600mm lens.

Re: Moon photo

Hmm... well, that's my only real criticism, I'd like to see the whole of it. Use a smaller lens perhaps?

What? it doesn't have a zoom facility? What kind of cheap lens is that?

Re: Moon photo

Would the situation be improved if when taking the moon with part eclipsed to use the portrait format in order to get the full span or perhaps a compromise between detail from the lens at full stretch and the pleasure of seeing the moon as we expect to see it.

Re: Moon photo

Snapper

Even getting the moon in shot is a miracle using that range. Not only getting it "in shot" but focusing as well. What you may not realise is when using live view you can actually see the moon moving across the screen, within about 15/20 seconds you have to realign the lens again.

Its a completely different set of problems which you wouldn't even get with a 500mm lens, camera shake being one of them. No matter how firm the camera is on a tripod the shutter slap is extenuated by a tremendous amount

Just some of the things to overcome. To get better pictures would require an astro telescope with a DSLR connector
