I used to breed them as a kid, if they have been well socialised and handled they shouldn't bite (but they can still jump!)

Re: The hairdryer treatment

They are fascinating to watch, they are great parents, they work together take everything in turns, keep an eye on their young....they look so delicate when so young you can see through their skin.

This is our 2nd lot. Out the first ones Coco lasted just over 3 years.
I was joking about the biting. These new ones are very friendly.

If I didn't have cats, id get them again and experiment on them (with clicker/marker training)

The longest mine lived was about five years if I remember rightly (it was a long time ago) that is longer than usual though. Enjoy them, they are great fun.

Re: The hairdryer treatment

I'm afraid it'll always be rats for me, they're just so much more interactive, intelligent and personable! Gerbils are rather cute though.

Each to their own, but I think the little desert rats are like that too
Amazing how things change and something like this makes you think of something with such fondness. Actually missing them a bit now!

Re: The hairdryer treatment

They are for the Grandchildren but I'm the one who looks after them, cleans them etc lol. I don't mind at all really. Each one has its own character. we've had them about a week and they will come and eat out the flat of my hand (one I can cup my hands and move him). Next step, tightrope and a unicycle
