Lone tree in Renfrewshire

Crossed a farmers land, with his permission of course, to walk uphill on a very windy day to get a photo of this lone tree.

Re: Lone tree in Renfrewshire

I love this, brilliant colour and depth! Just a minor suggestion, perhaps you could try getting the edge of the field to slope away at a diagonal, into the right hand corner, might pack a harder punch again that way!

Brilliant work.

Re: Lone tree in Renfrewshire

Hmm, we see these lone trees from time to time, mainly in dramatic mono, so I am wondering what it looks like in a conversion? I like the idea, but I can't help but feel it needs something more... it's almost too real for me with all the unprocessed elements still visible. I'm also wondering if it would work as an almost square image in contrasty mono?...as most of what we are looking at is to the right and the space on the left has nothing happening. The tree and the sky are on the right. I think it is well spotted and really think it has more potential even in it's present form but stronger surreal P and P. Just my take which is probably best ignored

Thanks for your comment Zoundz. I did take such pictures but wasn't happy with it, I like this one better when it has more of the nature/surroundings than just 'from corner to corner' (sort of)

Thanks for your thoughts. I understand what you are saying with an monochrome version, but I have loads of those pictures and thought I wanted something different this time, especially with the strong colours of the sky and tree
I love the real thing - in colours or monochrome. I very much dislike too much P&P, it's not a real photo for me, nor even art as it's not you who do it, it's the computer software, it's a manipulated picture in a computer and not as it's taken with the camera. A camera and various filters can do a lot more and you feel so much more 'professional' than to spend hours by the computer changing your photos to something they were not from the beginning. I know for a fact that I feel much better at heart when I know my photos are taken straight out from the camera rather than manipulate them in PhotoShop. Yes, I do crop/remove dust spots and try to minimize distorsion (or however it's spelled) but that's the only things I do in PS and I've done so for over 10 years.

Re: Lone tree in Renfrewshire

I'll have to completely disagree with you about the PP thing to be honest I do think that adjustments after are perfectly acceptable, and something that was done often in the dark room too, it's just that it seems to have achieved a stigma with digital, that any photo where PP has been carried out is no longer the photographer's work. This of course is just not true.

Anyway, I see why you think that about the angle of the ground and I also think that it looks great with all the space, I'm a sucker for emptiness in photos

Re: Lone tree in Renfrewshire

We all have different opinions and views on things and that is something everyone has to (or rather: should) respect. It would be boring if everyone thought the same.

I was only replying to BlackCloud's ideas with my own thoughts.

I just thought that since you had neither C&C nor Edit ticked, there was no reason to supply suggestions. I liked it as it is
