Rochester Cathedral

Honest replies please. What's good, what's not, what works, what doesn't, what could I have done better?

Re: Rochester Cathedral

Most of the images look ok to me Dave, other than image 4, the rows of chairs, it does look like they have been drawn onto the picture, whether this is down to the way the light and shadows are hitting them, or more likely my eyesight,lol....Don`t get me wrong the image looks okay, just maybe a little strange.

Re: Rochester Cathedral

O.K. then Dave, honest replies it is and just my opinion for what it's worth. Overall an excellent set, but......

1) Would benefit from more foreground, gives the appeartance of being chopped off.

5) Straighten the converging verticals in pp.

8) Perhaps the crop ? is a little too tight, I can't tell for sure whether or not this is a font or a pulpit. From the carvings, I suspect a font.

Nit picking perhaps but as I see it.

Thanks Mark. I have just seen why it may look odd. Very old building with new chairs maybe?

Thanks you Cakes R Nice.
Number 3? I do not know 5 6 7 yes. 6 with a hint to bring out the patterns. I was quite dark in the crypt area.

Thank you Niko.

1, I see what you are saying. I did chop it a bit tight, there was a lot of people in the foreground (Rochester Castle is opposite, busy area) . I had the choice of leaving lots of people in or taking them out. The building is to wonderful to be spoilt by a load of colour clothed tourists

5, I found this one difficult. If you look at the line on the wall in the background I straightened that.
Truth is I don't know why when you take some pictures of buildings, or inside them, one side may look straight and other side leans. Someone explain please?

8, You are correct. It's a font. I went for a tight crop as the background was blown. Being a novice I didn't notice a huge window to the right letting loads of light in

Re: Rochester Cathedral

If as i suspect they are mostly HDR I would say they have been well processed Dave. I don't know about churches, I don't often photograph the indisde of one (heathen), but i like them none the less. I'm not keen on number 5, but can't put my finger on it.

Re: Rochester Cathedral

Shadows and contrast too Dave. I'm no church man. I do however find these old buildings fascinating. So much detail, care and craftsmanship have gone into them... and they have lasted. What do we get today, Argos and Ikea

Re: Rochester Cathedral

For some reason only known to me, and I don't know why, I have only 2 raw files from inside the cathedral. It all gets confusing when you're a pro
