Canon EF 50mm 1:8 lens?

Canon EF II 50mm 1:8 lens.

I 'm bidding on this lens on Ebay, it is a very good price , just wondered if any of you had it? No haven't lost the plot is for my film SLR

Though when I upgrade next year, I am seriously considering a Canonwhich is why I am not buying anymore lenses for my Oly until I decide.

So wondered if it is any good? I want it for portrait stuff.

A nifty fifty - same as mine (and a few other people)

Not sure how much you're bidding but you can get them new for £50 - £60

It's not very much so far £5, won't go more than £15.As I knew they weren't expensive to buy new, but this is hardly been used, has all original box etc, so thought it was worth a bid.

You'll hear 'nifty fifty' used in both Canon and Nikon. They're small. lightweight and can have a plastic rather than metal mount. Nifty fifty also tends to apply to the cheaper 1:8 rather than the more costly 1:4 or 1:2

For the money they're great. As for portraits the big wide aperture works well for throwing your background out of focus.

Another good thing is that being a fast lens (big aperture) you can still get a good amount of light in when using faster shutter speeds for things like kids playing or dogs.

Moonie if it's for a 35mm film camera the traditional focal length for portraits is around 85-105mm. 50mm would be ok for more picture area but head and shoulders would benefit from the more natural perspective these longer focal lengths offer. 50mm on a digital slr would effectively be around 75/80mm.

No it isn't old, so that is fine
