Camcorder V Compact Camera

Karen's wanting a camcorder (not sure what they're called nowerdays). Haven't really looked properly so not sure if she's after one with a hard drive, compact flash card or DVD etc.

Anyway - If we went for one that takes a compact flash then for the money, I just wondered how they compared to 'movie mode' on modern digital compact camera.

Re: Camcorder V Compact Camera

Hi Phil, I don't know much about camcorders, but I remember the BBC running something on them a little while ago, I hope the link works and is helpful

Re: Camcorder V Compact Camera

Phil ,I have a great camcorder, it is easy to use, and gives really fantastic quality results , I wish I had it when the kids were babies TBH I don't use it as much as I should

It is a Panasonic NV - GS120 I can't get too techie because I am not into the specs, but for ease of use etc, size, it is really light and compact, and quality I really would recommend it. I bought mine abou t 18 months ago, and think it has dropped lots in price.

Here is some info..

Re: Camcorder V Compact Camera

Cheers guys.

I guess I'm asking is whether film recorded on a camcorder is much better than a film taken on a good compact camera ?

It would be nice to have a decent compact camera and if the film quality was just as good then is it a good option ?

Re: Camcorder V Compact Camera

I wouldn't have thought the quality would be as good Phil. My sisters have decent compact cameras that do movies but they have camcorders too - so I'd say if they can notice the difference you certainly will

Re: Camcorder V Compact Camera

I agree with Azz on this

I do still have my comapct and it is really good, but the quality is just not the same

Same as my camcorder takes stills, but they are no way as good quality TBH.

I personally think you are better off buying a camcorder, especially if it is for the new baby , JMO Like I said before, I wish I had my camcorder when the kids were really small.
