A complete beginners 52

Hello!
I am a complete beginner - I picked a 'real' camera for the first time yesterday.
I thought the 52 challenge would be a good way to spur me on to keep going and to track my progress.
Any tips / advice would be great!
While I was fiddling with the depth of field thingy (I'm very technical - can you tell?) I noticed these lovely brambles growing over a rusty wheel barrow.
I don't usually fiddle with the artistic filters but I tried clicking on a few and I quite like the effect of this ink one.
So, here is my first photo:

Week 1

Kit 1
Canon 550D
Canon 50mm 1.8
Sigma 30mm 1.4
on loan: Tamron 90mm

Re: A complete beginners 52

You have made a good start so now you going to have to improve during the next 52 weeks. Don't know about the others but Moonie and myself are inclined to use a shot taken that week so sometimes they are a but special to us and sometimes very mundane.

Good luck with your personal challenge and I am sure this time next year you will be amazed at what you have achieved.

Re: A complete beginners 52

Excellent start. The hardest part in my humble opinion is actually visualising the final image before you take the shot.

I often find that it helps if I have an image title in my mind as I compose the shot.

I love this 'Brambles and Barrow' image.

I've already said how much I love this photo - perfect for me! Well done! That bit of editing to remove the wire is seamless too! Excellent work!
