Hi Toots. The RSPB nature reserve I visit to take these images have a dedicated photography hide which I use quite often. I also wait until the birds are suitably perched (or in flight) with nothing distracting in the frame.
I also try to shoot in good light as well.

Appart from all that, I'm quick on the draw and have the freedom of shooting hand held. You need a lot of patience as well
