Shanlaragh - The Old Farmhouse

I know everyone must be getting thoroughly sick of landscape shots from me... but here's another one anyway - taken a while ago. My house and barn

So - go on, what can I improve?

Re: Shanlaragh - The Old Farmhouse

Why not trawl the net for landscape photographers.... look at their work, see and make note of what it is that they do that pleases you?

Then start off by trying to replicate it... you will soon develop your own style and improve your competency.

Re: Shanlaragh - The Old Farmhouse

Bloomin' eck, I have to drive 5 miles or more to get countryside like that and start walking. Look at the rich colours in the landscape behind! Laura it's not much better for many of us when we do get to where we are hoping to start a search for pictures!

Re: Shanlaragh - The Old Farmhouse

Thank you BC - it's like I said - it's gorgeous, and I love it here, but it is a little bland - and as someone mentioned on other threads, the problem is lack of focal point... my house appears to be the only focal point here! It's very pretty, but I bet if I went out and took a photo of it, straight, without my house in the way - everyone would say it was bland, or lacking something. actually, the landscape is very similar to this:

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/1628/ck01.jpg

if anything, less dramatic!

thanks for the comments - much appreciated

Re: Shanlaragh - The Old Farmhouse

Well that countryside could be in Leicestershire, it looks just the same. For me it is a case of walking until I find a feature and perspective that fits in with what I think is a photograph. i don't post that many and even for me i always think it would be so much better to be in the lakes or scotland but I'm not so just have to make the best of what I have. Sometimes even a walk through the villages rather than the fields brings up possibilities.

Anyway, gotta go and do some jobs...

Re: Shanlaragh - The Old Farmhouse

Er Laura it looks photogenic to me!

Love the barn, and the gate, and the house, and the surrounding countryside Go up the driveway towards the barn, then lean against the hedge, so you have the barn in shot with what looks like stunning countryside behind it.

Stand on the gate so you have a clear view of the country side

I love that barn, prop a bicycle against it or a wheel barrow, bench, something in front of it

Re: Shanlaragh - The Old Farmhouse

That's a really good tip from JR - take a look through our AOP landscapes section too, whenever you find a pic you really like, make a point to try and emulate it - you'll soon 'click' on what makes a good picture of the type. It really is one of the best ways to learn

Re the Barn, is it yours? I'd do it up and know the house down
