Re: Monitors

I have one of these Dells that I got half price due to a smashed cabinet that I use as part of a 3 screen set up
tv on the left piccys in the middle on the Dell and a hp on the right for emails
what have I gained by having a isp monitor ........nothing ,I still sit in front of it ,I dont turn it at an angle so whats the point ,it is also a lot slower than the hp so I end up watching dvds and videos on the hp
dont get fooled by videos that compare two ,its very easy to calibrate the one they want to sell and decalibrate the other.

I am talking about an IPS Dell ultrasharp monitor. There is a tremendous difference from a Normal monitor.
Seems to me you have been sold something different or talking about a completely different monitor. I would if I were you send yours back to Dell for checking out

The IPS monitor is far sharper -has no time delay and better colour redition. Don't know what you paid for yours but mine cost over £170.

Re: Monitors

I sometimes plug my laptop into my TV. Pictures look great but it doesn't help me taking better pictures

Re: Monitors

TN panels don't provide accurate colour representation, even when you are directly in front of them and don't move your head a nanometer (they're obviously worse when you do move - they were never intended for professional image work).

Wide colour gamuts and good panel technology make the world of difference - and are essential considerations for anyone doing print work.

Re: Monitors

I can't really get a new monitor. I'm just wondering since reading Daves post...if I plug the camera into the tv, will it give me a closer representation of my photo when printed?

I've made the mistake of thinking my photo looked great, but by the time prints arrived...not so great!

You could calibrate your monitor, and when using it try to look at it from right in front of it - that should help

Also, if you monitor has a setting that has the options something like 'cold/warm/neutral' try putting it on 'warm' - reason being is most (non-Apple) monitors are set to display blues (colds) as much as possible to make them look 'the brightest' when in a shop environment (with all their bright lights etc). Try it and see if it looks better on 'warm'.

Re: Monitors

Apart from monitors I have to admit I don't know how much computer graphic cards can affect the display. Having 2 different computers with different cards in each I can't tell the difference on screen. Ok yes they can make videos run smoother providing the processor is up to the job, but as for the actual picture quality I don't have a clue.

It might be in the control panel options for you monitor - I vaguely remember there being such an option on my old Acer, but I haven't used it for years so can't be sure. Generally tho, laptops don't have the option (and you have to calibrate it using other means - such as with a calibration tool like spyder pro).
