Feed them and they will come

Its been great temperature dropping and us getting a little snow, a couple of new visitors to the feeders over the last 2 days and in general a good increase in bird numbers although this maybe down to the amount of food that is put down for them, i am currently filling the feed up 3 times a day.

Anyway. Two photos from yesterday, unfortunately not that good as they were taken through the kitchen window.

Image 1 - Coal Tit - Had seen him around for a while, but only in the trees, he finally made it to the feeders yesterday.

Image 2 - I was just watching the Starlings yesterday afternoon and noticed a small gang of birds land in the neighbors tree, quickly realized they were Redwing, managed to capture 4 in one image, there was a 5th one out of shot. I had never seen or even heard of a Redwing 3 or 4 weeks ago.

Onto today`s images

Just got up this morning, come down to brew up, opened the kitchen blind to see what was feeding and noticed 2 birds on the Nyjer feeder. 1st visitors to the garden of Siskins, a Male and Female. What a nice sight Again sadly images taken through kitchen windo so they are not that good and with it being a little dull 1st thing ISO was cranked up to 1200 so images not that clear either.

Last image is of the Chaffinch again, finally brave enough to ground feed, although i still cannot capture any clear images of him....Maybe one day

Re: Feed them and they will come

Nice set Mark I'm thinking of buying one of the feeders from pound stretcher that stands alone with some feeders and a little bath as I have no trees at the back of my house just walls off other houses. I use to love looking out of window at what was on feeders in trees etc miss it now...

Re: Feed them and they will come

Thanks Owen.
It is really worth adding some feeders in the garden and maybe small branches to give the birds natural perches, i cut two branches down off the neighbors tree yesterday just to stick into the ground. I am now debating whether to buy an apple tree or two so they have natural platforms to land on again. Ideally really need to redesign the garden if i want a more birds to arrive. Costing us a fortune feeding them though, lol. Worth it though

Re: Feed them and they will come

Golds and Greens would be nice. Who knows if this cold snap continues we might at least get some Golds in. Not sure about Greens as their numbers suffered through catching Trichomonosis, killing many of them off.

Re: Feed them and they will come

great mixed bag, you have there, siskins are lovely to have coming into the garden, i love the redwings, we often have large flocks around here in the fields, but they don't venue into the garden,

we have had a big drop in greenfinch numbers around here, that disease has taken it's toll
